ABOUT ME
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
At age 28, I was a new wife and mother, facing financial struggles for the first time and enduring constant marital conflict. Paranoia, overthinking, anxiety—these were my everyday companions. To make matters worse, as a musician who had grown up in church, I was a “worship leader,” yet my faith felt weaker than ever. My public life was a facade, hiding the cracks that were ready to break.
I wish I had a better reason for crying out to the Lord for help. Still, it all started like this: I was in a church filled with smart, wealthy people who knew a lot about the Bible, which made me feel inferior in all three areas. Ugh, pride. I worried that they would see me as a “poser,” someone who only knew just enough to get by. Combined with the time commitment involved in being part of the church, I questioned why I was even there. These thoughts plagued my mind, and I decided to figure out what I truly believed and why. I hoped to do this before I was “found out.”
Of course, God had other plans for me. He drew me to His Word with love, showered me with grace through the songs I led, and captured my heart with His Son, Jesus. I encountered a significant trial within that church that forced me to choose between walking away forever or entirely surrendering to Him.
I chose to surrender. In fact, I repented, which meant agreeing with God that my thoughts and actions were not aligned with His and making conscious choices to live according to His way. It was challenging but ultimately freeing.
I began reading a children’s Bible I had received in elementary school, starting with the book of Matthew. I was astonished to truly meet Jesus for the first time. He was so much more than I had ever realized. Yes, He was kind and caring, but He was also authoritative and commanding. He was someone I could lean on, trust, follow, and see what would happen next.
It’s been over 20 years since then, and my journey has led me to a deeper relationship with God, His Son, and His Word. In my pursuit to know God more intimately, I attended seminary and earned a Master of Divinity in Theology while leading worship for the Baptist Convention of MD/DEL.
I was honored to teach the Bible to women in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and to train leaders in facilitating discussions and leading other women. Eventually, God called me to train those teaching in BSF classes across the MD/VA/DC region. It was a journey filled with unexpected blessings, all orchestrated by God.
During those years of working with people and witnessing their struggles, I developed a desire to sharpen my counseling skills. It became clear that I was frequently engaged in counseling work rather than solely teaching, prompting me to learn how Biblical Counselors conduct their ministries effectively.
This led me to enroll in the Doctor of Educational Ministry in Biblical Counseling program from Southern Seminary, where I have completed most of my seminars and have begun my ministry project on teaching the fundamental principles of biblical counseling.
Currently, I am offering counseling services to those in need of hope and restoration, particularly for individuals whose churches do not have an established biblical counseling ministry.
Biblical Counseling is a discipleship ministry of the church and I encourage clients to communicate with their pastors about their needs first to see if their church offers counseling resources.
I am more than willing to work with churches regarding the financial aspects of counseling. For those who find my current rates prohibitive, I offer services on a sliding scale, so please do not hesitate to reach out if financial concerns are a barrier to receiving care.
That’s my journey!
I’d love to help you on your journey!
